Synopsis
The CCUs Symposia will bring together legal and accounting professionals to explore the implementation of the Co-operative Capital Unit financial instrument, recently introduced in Western Australia under the Co‐operatives Act 2009 (WA).
1. CCUs in Action (Alex Sceales, Sceales & Co - specialist tax lawyers)
2. CCU structure and potential as an equity instrument (Winthrop Professor John Watson UWA; and Dr Elena Limnios, University of Western Australia)
Afternoon tea
3. Workshop - How would you structure a CCU and why? What are the legal and accounting implications of the use of CCU instruments? How can the identified management/control concerns be addressed? Are there any legislative restraints that should be reviewed?
4. Informal panel discussion - Reporting on workshop outcomes, questions and answers.
A report of the outcomes of the symposia will be circulated back to participants for their information and commenting.

People in the co-operative sector who hold the following positions - director of finance; Chief Financial Officer; in-house or external accountant, auditor, financial adviser, bankers to co-operatives and lawyers with co-operative clients.
